Why did you choose teaching as a career?
If you want to know why I teach, my answer is simply this: "Children are amazing!!" I am truly humbled that God gave me these precious gifts and the ability to inspire them. It is only through Him that I am able to do so. Teaching is a gift that I am so grateful to have. If you want to feel true joy in life, you should spend time with kids! There is no other job that pays more! I am not talking about monetary standards;I am talking about something way more valuable than that. Children are unbridled and unafraid to speak the truth. In one breath, they will tell you that your hair looks crazy. Then, in the next, they will run screaming your name when they see you and wrap their little arms around you and tell you that they love you. This is something more valuable than diamonds of gold! I have found that when you love them, they will do anything for you. Getting them to try harder is easy when they know you care. So, you keep pushing, a little at a time, and then one day, you watch them find their wings. It is something, even after all of my years of teaching, is still a miracle to watch. In this world, I have learned that it is not about me. Those kids teach me more about life in one day than I could teach them in a lifetime. Having someone believe in you is amazing, but teaching someone to believe in themselves, well, that's the good stuff! I get to see and be a small part of that every day. As Mother Teresa once said, "We can do no great things, only small things with great love." It is not always easy, but nothing worth doing is ever simple. These kids bring true sunshine to my day!

Is there anything else you'd like for us to know?
I want to thank each and every one of you for this incredible honor! I know that you all worked very hard to make this day possible and special for Ruff and me. It is a moment that I will treasure forever. Thank you for making kids and teachers feel special! I am truly humbled by your generosity and kindness!
