Why did you choose teaching as a career?
I grew up in a large family, as the oldest girl I took an active role in caring for my younger siblings. I learned to be very good at entertaining and getting my siblings to do what I needed them to do. Teaching is very similar.

Is there anything else you'd like us to know?
My teaching training started at Hardin-Simmons University with a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education and an Early childhood Certification. I have taught 19 of my 22 years of teaching in Kindergarten. My husband Mark teaches AP Economics and Pre AP Geography at Cooper High School. All three of my kids are in the AWESOME schools of Abilene at Austin Elementary, Mann Middle School and Abilene High School! I believe Kindergarten is the most important school year in a child’s life! Helping to form a childs’s love of school and building a foundation of reading and problem solving is a responsibility I love and take very seriously. I feel very fortunate to be planted at Austin Elementary surrounded by incredible colleagues and parent support!!!!
